European Directive 2006/42/EC on machinery â€˜The Directive' cameinto force on 29 June 2006 within the European Union replacingEuropean Directive 1998/37/EC. The provisions of the new Directivebecame applicable on 29th December 2009. The Directive containsguidelines on the design and construction of machines and liftingaccessories which Member States have been required to transposeinto national law.
This Publication was originally produced by the EngineeringEquipment & Materials Users' Association, in the absence of anyknown international or national standard on the design of liftingpoints for plant and has been revised taking into consideration theDirective. This Publication supplements the documents listed underSection 2.1 Legislation and Regulatory Guidance which were producedby the UK Government when complying with the European Directive1998/37/EC.
Lifting points are provided to facilitate lifting and handlingof plant for installation/removal, maintenance and dismantling. Theprovision of adequate means for lifting is important for safe andefficient handling and to minimise risk of injury and damage.
